The challenge of student debt to vocations in the news once more

Recently the Tablet, the diocesan newspaper of Brooklyn, highlighted the challenge to new vocations due to education debt. The article features Aloni Bonilla, who "is learning to be an accomplished fundraiser." But according to the Tablet writer Bill Miller, Bonilla "has no ambition to be a development director. . . . Instead, she aspires to serve the Lord as a consecrated sister in a religious community." Of course, before she can do that, she must "overcome a formidable obstacle: an unpaid student loan." In a nice shout out to the NFCRV, the diocese's delegate for religious, Sister Maryann Lopiccolo, S.C., encourages candidates to seek assistance from the Vocation Fund and other groups that assist with educational debt.
